Katwa Govt, Primary Teachers’ Training Institute was established in 1930, then it was conducted ‘Primary Guru Training’(G.T) as per documentary evidence at Dak Bungalow Road, P.O.-Katwa,Dist.- Burdwan. After independence in the year of 1950 it was further started with new nomenclature i.e. ‘Katwa Basic Training School’. In the year of 1955the nomenclature was again changed to ‘Junior Basic Training College’. Later on, in the session 1991-92, it has been renamed as ‘Katwa Government Primary Teachers Training Institute’. Finally, from the 2012-14 session, Katwa Govt. P.T.T.I is recognized by the ERCNCTE and is affiliated by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education and it has started 2 years D.El.Ed course with 50+50 intake capacities.

Our vision is to ensure the successful achievement of the missions determined by NCTE, Department of School Education, Government of West Bengal and West Bengal Board of Primary education and thereby uphold our institute as a cenre for quality learning and dynamic education.

As a Government Primary Teachers’ Training Institute, recognized by NCTE and affiliated to West Bengal Board of Primary education, we try our best to implement the goals and objectives for teacher education, set by NCTE, Department of School Education, Government of West Bengal and West Bengal Board of Primary education. Our mission is to provide the trainees adequate learning environment and necessary opportunities for professional skill development to enable themselves to effectively contribute to quality education.
